Write the metric in plain language
Define what is counted, the time window, exclusions, source fields, and refresh point. Two people should be able to reproduce the number without asking what the label means.
Compare source and output
Trace a small sample from source record to report row and check filters, joins, and missing values. Record any limitation rather than presenting an incomplete figure as complete.
Return meaning to the owner
The reporting specialist can explain calculation and data gaps. Targets, risk conclusions, and operational decisions belong to the manager who owns the metric.
